Saint Stephen, first martyr

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Acts 6:8-10; 7:54-59
Psalm 31:3cd-4, 6 and 8ab, 16bc and 17
Matthew 10:17-22

A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture

"Do not worry about how you are to speak
or what you are to say."
(Matthew 10:19)

We do not face nearly the penalties that faced the early martyrs, and yet we are so often fearful. We don't know what to say. We are fearful of offending and hurting.

Leave it to God!

He knows what you should say and He will tell you as you need it. He will let the words come to you as they are needed. You will speak healing and those who hear you shall receive it.

Trust God, mighty in all works and full of deep compassion and love.

Saturday of the 3rd Week of Advent

Saturday of the 3rd Week of Advent

O Root of Jesse,
You stand as a sign for the peoples;
before You kings shall keep silence
and to You all nations shall have recourse.
Come, save us, and do not delay
.

Judges 13:2-7, 24-25a
Psalm 71:3-4a, 5-6ab, 16-17
Luke 1:5-25

A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture:

But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah,
because your prayer has been heard."
(see Luke 1:13)

Today, the angel speaks to all of us. Every prayer is heard by God and accepted as the most precious of gifts. Often we are astounded and struck dumb, because, though we pray, we often do so forlornly, not even hoping properly for an answer.

Believe! Your prayers are heard
AND answered in God's time and to the purpose of our good.

Believe, for God is with us now and always.
